Getting Started :)

To get the ball rolling, I am going to post some of my favorite pictures from past and more recent shoots. This will allow you to get a taste of my photography skills and style. My photography style is a combination, the photo journalistic and the traditional approaches. I love doing what I do, photography is a great way to tell a person’s life story through the use of a camera lense Enjoy! J

Hello :)

Hello! My name is Ashlee Elizabeth Brooke’ McFarland, but I go by Ashlee or Ash. I’m the sole owner of this blog and Ashlee McFarland Photography. Considering this is a brand new blog, I thought I would begin by telling you a little bit about myself, my photography and the intent of my blog.

For starters, I grew up in the gentle rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, in the small town of Williamsburg, KY. A place that time has seeming and graciously passed over, but not forgotten all together Sometimes I feel people need a passport to come here; Williamsburg is majestic in its own right. I mean, how many towns do you know about that get excited enough to post pictures of the new street lights on the town’s website? Yes, it’s that kind of town But, hey it’s home.

Moving on “I was born a coal-miner’s daughter,” is not only a great song, but it also rings true to my heart. My dad has been in the coal mines for over thirty-eight years, so yes I am a friend of coal and proud of it. In fact he right now, he is the general coal foreman for a local coal company I am very much so a self-described daddy’s girl! My dad, is without a doubt the greatest and hardest working man I have ever known.

On the flipside to that, I am also a mommy’s girl. My parents have been married for over thirty-six years, that’s a sheer miracle in itself. My mom and dad are an odd duo; you have extreme blue collar on his side verses her extreme white collar. My mother is a local nurse practitioner; she recently graduated with her doctoral degree in nursing Quite impressive I must say, she is quite an amazing woman.

I have two older sisters and a younger brother, who all drive me nuts in their own unique ways YET, I still love them. My nieces and nephews are my world, they are all different and stole my heart the moment they were born

Enough about my family; for the record my friends are amazing as well and I will elaborate more about them later on So for now, moving onto I guess what I consider what makes me “me” I attended Williamsburg Independent School until seventh grade, and then I transferred and graduated from Whitley County High School. From there, I attended my first year of college at the University of Kentucky (GO CATS!), couldn’t decide on a major or what to do So, I joined the United States Air Force!

Yes, I am a proud veteran and ABSOLUTELY support our troops! God Bless Them All! After I got out of the military, I came home and started working on my degree in Psychology with a double major in Spanish. In the end, I know graduate school is a given Which graduate school is the question? Stay tuned for the answer to that one Don’t worry, the answer will be here soon enough as I am FINALLY a senior at EKU!

Okay, enough with the boring stuff Now, it’s onto the fun/personal stuff. First and foremost, I am a Christian and believe in the trinity with all of my heart. God and Christ are awesome! Thank you Lord, for everything you do for me every day and all the blessing you have bestowed upon me. I am so thankful for what Jesus Christ did for humanity, way back when on Calvary Hill that I choose to live my life in service to him. If you have any questions about him feel free to ask.

Moving on Politically, I stand as far right as they come, yes folks I am certifiable Republican who loved George W. Bush Haters bounce! Just kidding! But, seriously I am a Republican, but that doesn’t mean I am going to force my opinions or beliefs on you. This is after all, a free country!
My passions are my faith of course, politics, photography, horses and people. My aim as a photographer is to tell the story behind a person’s smile, and to peer down deep into their soul by capturing the look in their eyes via photography. They say a picture is worth a thousand words; I find that to be a true statement and plan on sharing my life story and my client’s through the use of photography.
